Watch History Live:Impeachment Smarts

The past few weeks have been warp-speed in news updates. The things many of us have been thinking about, worrying over, caring about & knowing are being brought to light. It’s both maddening & exhilarating.

This is some of the media I’ve watched & listened to sometime from 2016-present because as it turns out I am the deeply nerdy person I always knew I could be.

There’s more, much more, than is here-these are just the most of the moment, to try & understand what the hell is going on.

⏰Active Measures: 2017

Holy Flashback-rewatching this gave me chills. Just watch the whole thing.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt8135494/

⏰Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook 2018

Seems like an important thing to know about with the most important election of our lifetimes only a year away.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt9346948/

⏰Divide & Conquer: The story of Roger Ailes; 2018

You don’t need a roll of string to connect the dots of conservative strategy, just watch this.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6471628/

⏰Get Me Roger Stone: 2017

There’s a saying, truth is stranger than fiction. Bet this is more fun to watch now that Rog has been found guilty on seven counts related to the 2016 election & Trump. Ps. In 2019 Truth is now officially stranger than fiction.

⏰The BrainWashing Of My Dad: 2015

Divisiveness? Unkindness? Impolite? Too Political?

Bothsiderism, Gaslighting, MisInformation.

This docu is a gift.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3771626/

⏰Citizen Koch: 2013

It is interesting when a party swears to be patriots & then finds every way possible to smash the efforts of citizens (as in humans) to participate in our political system. And by Interesting I mean disgusting.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2545338/

⏰Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press: 2017

This docu was the first to scare me to my core. Just the first though, about the 1st Amendment. And the free press. We’re still having this fight.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6333064/

⏰Dark Money: 2018

I love a good mystery and search for (actual) truth. But this left me chilled and sick at how Citizens United has de-democratized our political system.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6633182/

⏰Boogie Man The Lee Attwater Story: 2000

There was a time in our political history when white men could rise quickly & easily from obscurity to influencing the highest offices of our land. (That’s still the story btw). This is just the story of one of them from the not to distant past and how he affected change that still echo today.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1262863/

⏰Welcome to Leith: 2015

I recognize the people here. White Supremacy crimes are on the rise since around 2016. Some saw it earlier than some of us.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3962848/

⏰Best of Enemies: Buckley vs. Vidal; 2015

In the way back machine to three channels & a watershed moment of televised debates between two public intellectuals. It’ll sound a lot like today for being a lifetime ago.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3518012/

⏰RBG: 2018

It’s not shorthand for texting, it’s about Ruth Bader Ginsburg the second woman appointed to our Supreme Court; the Notorious RBG.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt7689964/

⏰Icarus: 2017

Sometimes I love sports docus & when I was in the middle of a run of them, I watched this one which turned out to be much more than a simple sports documentary. One word: Russia.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6333060/

⏰Knock Down The House: 2018

There have been women, from the beginning of our colonized land’s government early days, who have pierced the fabric of a system built “for the people by the people of the people” by white mostly privileged men. I love those stories & I fiercely admire those women. I am so proud of the many women who were elected to office in 2018. We all need hope, light & fresh oxygen to sustain our experiment of democracy.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt9358052/

⏰Tricky Dick (a miniseries): 2019

I’m a child of the seventies (1972) & while I existed during this incredible decade of birthings of new movements, I didn’t actually experience these years as an adult or even a teen. I’ve finally felt a magnetic pull to delve into the era, esp in the area of Nixon/Watergate this year. This series is all actual recordings & footage from Nixon’s career & life.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt9635504/

⏰Why We Hate: series 2018

An exploration into the human condition for hatred and how we can overcome it.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt8300948/

⏰The Post: 2017

A movie about The Pentagon Papers. It is so layered & so well acted; it’s the kind of historical storytelling I love.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6294822/

⏰Vice: The Untold True Story of Dick Cheney That Changed The Course Of History: 2018

Another Dick. Movie. Fascinating. Easy to watch. Hard to really really really understand and yet incredibly simple to understand.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6266538/

⏰The Untold Story of the 90s: 2018

This gem of a docu is harder to find than some others but very worth the watch. This was an era I lived in as a late teen/young adult. I thought I knew a lot about it; however I learned things I had no idea about, probably because historians find new things, new archives are de-classified & history is often subjective & influenced greatly by who has access and who tells the stories.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt8262530/

⏰The Looming Towers: 2018

I cannot recommend this more. I have watched the series three times and will watch it again because it is a masterful retelling based on the Pulitzer Prize wining author Lawrence Wright’s book of the same name. The screenplay, the acting, all of it so good. And it’s so so bad. While truth may or may not be black and white I only have a little space here so b/w will have to suffice.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6474236/

⏰Slow Burn: a Podcast Series about The Nixon Impeachment 2019

I started to listen to this a second time this week in between impeachment inquiry witnesses. Sometimes I got confused which inquiry I was listening to. You’ll hear what I mean.

⏰The Bag Man: a Podcast Series about Spiro Agnew; 2019

In which I learn what a bag man is, & who Spiro Agnew was besides being a vaguely familiar name of someone that was sort of shady & also a crossword answer.
